Lance Hood: Richard, you talked about some absolute deal breakers like eminent domain problems, or having 80% of the sales of the business in one customer. Does your course have a list of those deal breakers and maybe some resources so that people can research them?
Richard Parker: Without trying to sound like I am giving this shameless plug, yes. I mean, we literally take people through everything you need to know, everything you need to do, and here is exactly how to do it. And it gives you all of those particular scenarios.
Now there are unique situations that arise, and that's specifically why this whole business was founded on the idea that we're not just providing people with the information, but we provide people with ongoing consulting and email support and phone support when they need it. I have personally investigated over 1000 businesses. Plus, there's 20,000 plus clients that we have that we've helped. We have responded to nearly 300,000 emails addressing specific situations people have encountered when buying a business so I can tell you that there's probably no situation that exists that I haven't seen yet.
Lance Hood: I read a quote from Donald Trump about you where he talks about buying a business and says: Buying a business can accelerate your path to financial independence and eliminate many of the risks of a start-up. The rewards can be immense - but you have to do your homework. And with Richard Parker as your instructor, you'll be about ten times more likely to succeed!"Well, and you seem to have Donald Trump's seal of approval.
Richard Parker: Yeah, that - thank you. That was a pretty neat stamp of approval. I have done a couple of projects with him and Trump University and when it comes to Donald Trump people either love him or hate him, right? And I've always admired this guy immensely because he is a true entrepreneur. I mean this is a guy who was so far up and so far down and all the way back up again, and really just an entrepreneurial blood flowing through his veins. And got his endorsement after he read the material, it was really just a phenomenal validation of the materials in the same validation that we got from Peter Shay of Entrepreneur Magazine. Or if you take a look at our website, I mean, you see pages and pages of real live testimonials from real people who - and we tell anybody, any of our prospective clients, "Listen, if you want to talk to any of these people we're happy to give you their contact information."
I mean, we are not a company that says, "This is from JK in Dallas, Texas." These are live real people who've just sent us unsolicited testimonials and I can tell you, we don't even have wall space in our office anymore for having hung up all the pictures and letters that we have from people who've benefited directly from our materials. I mean, it's without question the thing that we are most gratified about.
What I try to explain - I get some nay-sayers who says, "Well it doesn't even make sense to me. You have this course and you're going to provide me with all this email consulting and you're only charging us X amount of dollars, it doesn't even make sense." I did not go into this business for the money. I mean, I've sold businesses. I've done very well. I've been very, very lucky. The agenda was really to help people. If we were charging people on the hourly basis, you know the hourly consulting that I do for clients is at $750 an hour. So it is not cheap. That's not what people who follow our course - they get all of that for free.
This business started almost as a joke. I just said that I'm going to put all of my years of experience and all of the consulting that I have done, and all of the businesses that I have looked at all these years, 1000 plus businesses that I looked at, I am going to put that into a meaningful program to help people because of what you and I talked about right from the beginning, is it was evident to me that the average person would never be able to buy a business. There was just not enough resources for them. But the idea was just to help people.
My wife asked me, "How many do you think you're going to sell?" My answer to her and I remember it like it was yesterday, I said, "I'll be happy if I sell one and help one person." And the whole organization runs on the idea of helping people. It's not, yeah it's great we happened to get very lucky and the business has exceeded my wildest expectations. I mean, had you told me a number of years ago that we're going to launch this and continually update product and suddenly we are going to have distribution in over 80 countries, I'd think you're crazy. I never would have believed it. But I guess that probably happened because the product is so good and we're sincere. We help people. That is what we do every single day.
