Reduce Fear: How can I dramatically Reduce my Fear in Any Situation? E-mail

Question

If you have a lot of built up fear does changing your words still change the emotion to a great enough degree?

Expert Answer

Absolutely. Just take the terrible word “problem.” That people speak about problems all the time and by using the word problem you almost get paralyzed. You get slowed down. You don’t take action. Or at least you don’t take action the way you’re supposed to take action.

So instead of saying, “problem” you could call it “a situation” to make it something neutral. It doesn’t scare you anymore. A situation doesn’t scare you. It also doesn’t encourage you, but if you replace the word problem by challenge that sounds completely different. It’s exciting. So by solving a problem you accept a challenge. Once again, you simply replace certain words and by changing your words you will change your life.

Tony Robbins calls that “transformational vocabulary.” He abbreviates it, he calls it “TV”. Stands for “transformational vocabulary.” And he gives example of people who are very upset, who get very upset about small things. And then instead of saying, “I’m so angry. And I’m devastated. I’m furious.” You could say, “Well I’m slightly inqualidated. I’m a little bit annoyed.” And you can feel immediately the difference it makes for your feeling, and for your motivation, and for the actions that follow your feelings.
